The Headings

At the start of each chapter there are some headings. They consist of a few small sentences and keywords which describe the main events of the coming chapter. They function as appetisers - they make us want to read more – and they make us recap chapters easier.
And example: chapter six
Headlines: A Dirty Old Man. Ted’s Casserole. A Bad Dream. Village of the Damned. Down There.

“A Dirty Old Man” refers to when Bobby meets a flasher. “Ted’s Casserole” to when they are eating together at Ted’s place. “A Bad Dream” refers to what Bobby dreams about his mother being chased (and abused). “Village of the Damned” is the motion picture Ted and Bobby see together in the movie theatre, and “Down There” is the sinister neighbourhood where the Pocket is situated.
